My first Porsche, which was also my first car was a manual transmission was a five speed manual Porsche 986. Boxster and I still enjoy driving this car after two years of ownership. It has been the most fun vehicle I’ve ever driven I still have it I can only imagine how the 911 will feel and I cannot wait to acquire one one day whether it’s the 996 or 997 or an air cooled 911 but it must be a manual transmission. I cannot give up the spirit of driving, even though the PDK semi automatic gearbox shifts faster than the manual transmissions it’s that joy I get when I shift gears myself engaging, and disengaging clutch shifting into a higher gear on a windy road that’s what does it for me

I own an even more rare 997 GTS: Convertible 997 carrera 2 GTS manual transmission. Since convertible is a must for our roadtrips in south of France, Italy, spain Corsica, I can't dream of a better car. Mine is fitted with a Milltek center muffler bypass. Sound better than original PSE while being kiet enough on highway (not frequent in my case). I agree with all you said. Hydro power steering is perfect. Gear ratio is perfect for the torque of the engine. The handling is very 911ish with the wide body RWD chassis. Only option missing for my taste on my one is locking differential. I will keep it for all my life.

I would never change my 993 to a 996. The quality is very bad. The engine is crap and does not last long. (The only real thing is the „Metzger Engine“) Fullstop.

The pre 74 will hold for a long time yet.

I collected my 40th Anniversary Edition 996 yesterday. Just brilliant. What a car. My wife and I both love it. Lots of thumbs up from other drivers and riders.

Evap system purge valve have you tried disconnecting it sorted my 986. I was chasing the issue for over 12months.

It's an old Porsche with a lot of rough miles. The intermittent problem is now its fate. Fix that problem and another will crop up soon afterwards.

Sounds fuel related to me pump could be getting hot and sticking. I think it’s back to basics when it happens check there’s a spark or fuel getting to the engine

Replacing the cabel from the battery to the engine helped in my case when my 996 (99) had similar issues a few years back.

The thing I learned from this video is my 915 gearbox is not properly sorted. It’s a train wreck and I’ve driven manuals my entire life.

I had a similar fault with my 996 and it was the fuel charcoal canister

Mines been completely bulletproof for 50k miles. Daily driven in traffic as well for many years.

Did you change the power cable to the starter motor when you put a new starter in? these can be known to corrode, I am clutching at straws here but could be causing electrical problem. John Vdub at the pub
